Negative side of The Biggest Loser

Today, I was going through the blogs and came across more than one about people wanting to lose there weight quicker like the people on The Biggest Loser. Alright…I am a fan of the show. But I am really bothered that people are blogging about this. I really feel like so many people are just looking at it as WOW there cutting there calories and working out “hard” and there losing double digits weekly.

These contestants go from not working out at all, eating around 4000-5000 calories a day then go on The Biggest Loser and start working out at least 6 hours a day and eating 1200-1500 calories a day!!! Yes, your body is going to body drop weight rapidly! The majority of the contestants are morbidly obese.  !! The one smallest girl this year is the one dropping the least amount of weight every week! It’s a TV show for heaven sakes…so there not gonna make it boring! So it breaks my heart when people think and expect they should be losing just like the people on The Biggest Loser.  I wish people would gain from the motivation and tips that comes with show and not get discouraged on their 2 or 3lbs a week.

Just my opinion, hope that doesn’t offend anyone.

I’d be happy to lose 2 or 3 pounds a week. You are right that those people have a lot to lose. For some of us working our a**es off would be hard on our bodies.

I agree with you 1000%, and think you put it very well! To the show’s credit, both Bob and Jillian have spoken to that fact both on and off camera, and about the show’s very rigorous and specific circumstances. Too bad more people haven’t gotten the message…

I agree, absolutely!!! The average person can not healthily lose more than 2-3 lbs a week!!!!

yeah…i think that on the biggest loser they need to stop acting like you need to lose lotsa weight every week…these people also dont have a job…well…actually they do and their job is to lose weight…i have two jobs and taking on a third job of losing weight is extra extra difficult because you have the stresses of life and work and relationships and all that stuff that the biggest losers dont have on campus…but i am not mad at the biggest loser because they r doing great things….i just know that people have to be smart enough to know that they cant do what theyre doing unless they are actually on that biggest loser campus or doing the same thing that biggest losers are doing at their home which is near impossible

I stopped watching biggest loser a long long time ago.

It’s unrealistic for every day people to drop weights like that and many people who drops a few lb feels like a failure when they compare themselves to the show.

    Shakes head and walks away.

    Great blog!

    you are exactly right

I am a fan of the show too but

its not realistic at all to think we could lose that kind of weight

not with families and jobs and all the things that life throws at us

our everyday lives don’t leave us the time or energy to workout the way they do
we don’t have trainers with us day in and day out

we don’t have cameras on us all the time

we aren’t able to focus strictly on our weight loss and nothing else
there is a reason those people are taken out of their homes and put on the ranch where that is all they focus on

    that’s not the real world

I still wonder how long those contestants can keep the weight off after losing it so quickly and then having to go back into the real world.

I’d love to see them do a Biggest Loser reunion show and bring everyone back for us to see.
Everyone, not just the most successful ones.
I think we’d see that there are many of them that don’t keep all the weight off.
I hope they do, I wouldn’t wish for any of them to gain it back but it wouldn’t surprise me either.

I still believe losing it slowly and steadily is the way to go to be healthy and to keep the weight off.

I love love love biggest loser! And to be honest, I think that on numerous occasions, they have made it clear this is not normal. And, you would have to be very oblivious to the facts of weightloss if you think this is normal. I think the show is inspirational - and although the more I watch it, I think the more ‘money-maker’ like when they do their advertisments of gum, turkey, etc, but I have learned a lot of good tips from them.

Good blog - maybe BL should make it more clear to some people out there that is not normal - I mean they have round the clock help, no work, and doctors at their side if something happens.

I actually just put some of their books on hold at the library to see what they are about . .. ever read any of them??

People forget that the contestants are eat, sleep, and breathing losing weight. they dont have to worry about doing laundry or taking the kids to tee ball practice.

I totally agree, I love watching BL but I think that to the uninformed, it paints an unrealistic picture. I dont care for the fact that they took morbidly obese people and beat the crap out of them the first day on campus, no wonder why some collapsed and so on. I know that at alomst 400 lbs, if I got pushed that hard, I would have probably passed out. 1-3 lbs a week it perfect.

slow and steady wins the race.
